Abby Long - Mississippi Program Director

A New England girl at heart, Abby Long hails from the hills of Central Massachusetts, the north woods of New Hampshire, and most recently the Green Mountains of Vermont. She has a BA from Providence College in American Studies and Public and Community Service Studies. In college Abby discovered her penchant for community service and curiosity about the world by doing an environmental internship in Mayflower Bocawina National Park, Belize. From then on she was hooked!

After college Abby headed halfway across the world to Inner Mongolia to teach English to Chinese kindergarteners. She took advantage of this year-long sojourn by traveling extensively throughout China and Southeast Asia. The following year Abby worked with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps serving in California and post-Katrina New Orleans. She has since returned to her New England roots to be an outdoor educator for Nature's Classroom for the past two years.

Abby joined VISIONS in 2010 on Montana's Blackfeet Indian Reservation. VISIONS reinforced and re-informed her joy of working with youth. She is convinced that as the globe ‘shrinks' the hearts and minds of youth are key to bringing diverse countries, cultures and communities into peaceful, productive relationships.

Currently, Abby is at the School for International Training Graduate Institute, Brattleboro, VT, earning both an MA in Intercultural Service, Leadership, and Management, and a Masters in Teaching. She spends her down time teaching yoga, singing at the top of her lungs to horrible pop music, fishing, milling about in the outdoors in any way possible, and lounging in the sun (with proper SPF, of course). She is thrilled to return with VISIONS to the Gulf Coast.
