Divers Alert Network (DAN)

VISIONS requires all participants to have medical evacuation insurance. If your health insurance company does not include evacuation, VISIONS recommends DAN (Divers Alert Network). DAN is not limited to diving emergencies. The $35 yearly membership automatically includes TravelAssist, a service which arranges emergency medical evacuations and many other services which facilitate immediate and comprehensive medical care.

VISIONS may be your first encounter with community service, or it may be one of many in a long history of service. Either way, we are confident that your experience with VISIONS will change your life - and your relationship with community service. We encourage you to continue this relationship once you get home. There are wonderful organizations everywhere that offer year round service opportunities in your home community.

The following are a few organizations that can help you get involved with opportunities that work for you.

A search engine that matches thousands of volunteers with non-profits according to interest, location and schedule.

There are many excellent experiences out there from which to choose, and we cannot list them all here. Here are programs, different from VISIONS, that we unabashedly favor because of long association and friendship with the directors and the program, and because we are assured of the quality experiences they offer.

ProWorld Service Corps - www.proworldsc.org
2 to 26-week cultural, service, and academic experiences for high school graduates and college students in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the Peruvian Amazon, the Caribbean coast of Belize, Mexico, India and Thailand.

Longé Dominica - www.longedominica.com
An organization established to increase tangible resources in the Carib Territory in Dominica by "connecting individuals through collaborative living, community development and conversation." Longé offers Gap Year and Summer Semester programs, and customized experiences.

Longacre Leadership - www.longacre.com

Teen leadership program on 300 acre farm in PA, since 1975. Longacre offers both four and six week summer sessions to a limited total of 72 participants, 12 through 18.

The mission of Summer Search is to identify low-income high school youth who demonstrate resiliency in overcoming hardship and the desire to help others. Nurturing those qualities over time in students who have often been neglected allows them to become empowered future everyday leaders. Our ambitious mission is accomplished through a program that combines full scholarships to summer experiential education programs with intensive long-term mentoring.

Rotary Club Youth Exchange - www.rotary.org/programs
Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures through extended stays of up to a year living with host families. This plants the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding.
