    Service Projects

As is always the case in Dominica, service projects this summer will be many and varied. The Carib Council takes a leading role in identifying the Territory’s needs, which will likely include infrastructural renovations to the Batacca Community Center; continued maintenance of Centipede Trail at the little library building; and repairs to the kitchen at the old Salybia school.  We may work with a grass-roots environmental organization to build composting toilets and with the Committee for Concerned Women to organize and supervise a tutorial reading program for small children.  At Touna Village…a model traditional Kalinago cultural village…we will build benches, and if there is time, rebuild a bus shelter.

As is also often the case in Dominica, the above-listed projects may change as the Council’s goals shift and as the Council continues to hear from Territory residents and organizations about their needs. It is more common than not in the Caribbean that our partners re-prioritize their needs and VISIONS work projects in the weeks just ahead of our arrival.  Regardless, what doesn’t change is the fact that your work will have an impact in the Carib Territory and within the community.

Please bring a willingness to learn new skills and the desire to share your unique talents with all of us!
