    Service Projects

Projects in Ecuador are a blend of carpentry, adobe, and some concrete construction. We partner primarily with El Patronato in Patate, a grassroots organization that responds to a range of social, housing and environmental needs locally. Our projects may involve renovation by putting the finishing touches on La Casa de Ancianos, an elders’ home for which VISIONS participants built an addition in 2010.  We also will work in the small community of Sucre nearby. Sucre has asked our assistance in creating a small museum that protects important artifacts discovered in the area. There may well be painting, some reconstruction of damaged structures. Sucre’s school needs renovations to the classroom and the roof over its expansive communal area.

In Sucre or Patate you will organize and supervise a day camp for children, innovating arts and crafts activities, games, and perhaps basic English lessons. Feel free to bring art or other school supplies -- always in short supply they will be put to terrific use!

In the Galapagos during the last days of our program, we will assist the Galapagos National Park with environmental projects, including invasive plant removal and trail restoration work.
