VISIONS French summer program in Guadeloupe combines community service, travel, and French language immersion. VISIONS has been working on island communities in Guadeloupe since 1991, and we are currently based on the vibrant and colorful island of Marie-Galante. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of tourist activity, our high school volunteers live and work with community members who speak little to no English. This conversational language experience is a great complement to classroom studies. See our Guadeloupe French immersion program.

VISIONS service projects are a core part of the French high school summer travel program, and it’s in equal measure with the cultural immersion and community-building with our island friends and work partners. Teen volunteers choose from a few different volunteer projects each day, including construction, environmental work, and running a day camp for local children.

Our high school volunteers experience the welcoming island life through conversations and cultural activities, such as traditional dancing and drumming, dinners with local families, workshops with artisans, and visits to lively festivals and marketplaces. Hone in French skills, with a perfect balance of Caribbean culture and French language immersion.

Language Prerequisites

For all of our summer programs of more than 15 days, we require two years studying French, or the equivalent in life experience, in order to participate. There are no prerequisites for the shorter program. Middle school or high school French are acceptable.
